The Perfect Man Interview with Copanhagen Native and Luxurist Juuso Hakanen

What's your first thought when you wake up? Coffee or tea?

None of them... it’s a matter of how long I dare to snoozy.

What made you get into hospitality and what is the most challenging aspect of it and the most rewarding thing about it?

Hospitality found me when I was fifteen and somehow it became a career for me and yes, it has it challenges like every other job. Challenging is running a large team of young stars of hospitality. Motivate, inspire and challenge every each of them. My team is around 40 young talents all over the world. For me, I have been lucky and I have been part of big openings, like The NED HOTEL in London, SUKAIBA Copenhagen and when you put together a team of forty to fifty new staff members and open a restaurant and bar with huge success and great reviews it’s one of the most rewarding moments in the business.

Tell us what luxury means to you?

Luxury is a big word, and nowadays I would say “Time is Luxury”. Great work life balance and time to travel to explore the world, the new luxury is about experiences. I have already booked my first four trips in next three months and that is luxury to me.

What inspires you?

Traveling and meeting new and interesting people who can teach me completely unexpected life lessons and be the inspiration for my next great idea. I’ve often come back from a trip with a completely fresh eye on my business and private life. This helps me ensure I'm always innovating and being creative.

What’s the last book you read?

Becoming Michelle Obama <3.

A quote that speaks to you?

You are what you do, not what you say you'll do.

Where do you go to switch off?

My bed and preferably nude.

What are your top international city choices for men seeking 1 revelry, 2 relaxation, 3 reinvention?

1. London is every man’s playground  2. Mykonos is the place to relax 3. One city can’t do this job. Twelve trips a year will.

You live in Copenhagen, what are the things you love about this city?

I love our architecture and how the city keeps transforming all the time. Copenhagen is an absolutely stunning city, especially in the summer time.

How do you describe your personal style?

Classy yet relaxed.

“I think we never can be perfect enough and life is an exciting journey to becoming more and more perfect. ”

What do you do to stay fit and where? What details make a fitness club a luxury facility?

Luckily, I do have a private fitness center in my building (not common in Denmark) with a yoga studio, so this makes things getting my workout in easier. I do however have a membership for a gym called SATS and their brand new venue called BLOX and is a stunning center with a beautiful water front view.

Boxers or briefs? Trunks or swim briefs? Any brands you like?

I wear boxers at home and briefs when I’m out. I recently came across a swedish brand called BREAD AND BOXERS. When it comes to beach, I always wear trunks by ORLEBAR BROWN, I normally have swim briefs under my trunks, wink.

3 Three products you can't live without?

1. SISLEY - Masque Contour Des Yeux
2. AESOP Mandarin Facial Hydrating Cream
3. ATELIER COLOGNE Vanille Insensée

What’s your favorite body part? And your least favorite?

I don't really have a favorite part on my own body, but I often admire perfect legs and ass. The belly is the easiest way to see how much self control a person has since it’s not that easy to keep it fit.

Are you a perfect man? In your opinion, what does it take to be The Perfect Man?

I think we never can be perfect enough and life is an exciting journey to becoming more and more perfect.

A restaurant?

BEEFBAR in Paris, recently opened and on my list to visit ASAP.

A fragrance?

As I mentioned before, Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée

If you had a choice, where would you choose to spend your last day on earth?

New York.
