Berlutti unveils new campaign by Alexander Jaime

Berluti presents its first campaign under the artistic direction of Kris Van Assche. The images mark the designer’s early imprint on the Parisian heritage brand.

Signifying a blank canvas for new beginnings, Kris Van Assche enlisted art directors M/M Paris to create a signature engrained in the most authentic core of Berluti: the embossment of an antique shoe tree unearthed from an archive ‘Alessandro’ shoe dating back to 1895, the year Alessandro Berluti established himself as shoemaker. Letters were designed to absorb the erosion of time of this most original signature into a new representation, stylizing the faded accents of the embossment into a clarified emblem for things to come.

The campaign, photographed by Jamie Hawksworth and styled by Mauricio Nardi, evokes a similar sense of transition in a conversation between past and future. Captured on contemporary faces, Kris Van Assche selected Berluti’s classic patinated Venezia leather and alligator Alessandro oxford shoe to honour its formative codes while retaining the undressed reset of the maison under his artistic direction, an energy under construction.

This campaign was thought of and art directed by Kris, I relate to it because it speaks of who we are while holding a promise of more to come” said Antoine Arnault, CEO of Berluti.

For this first campaign, I wanted to create an image rooted in the maison’s origins and emboss it with my vision” Kris Van Assche commented. “See you in January.

What's in your pocket? by Alexander Jaime

WORDS BY ARTYOM BEDNY

The first pocket square dates back to ancient Egypt, but King Richard II of England is the gentleman credited for this debonair invention. Furthermore, they are back completing those 2 piece suits as they once did. Of course, we have our favorites at the moment.

As the temperature drops, this fall season men, we have many options to relieve yourself of those Chukka boots for something more inspired from some of our favorite tastemakers. Raf Simons rethinks the classic men's shoe with a red strap and buckle. The team at Acne Studios chooses velcro for their closures adding a sleek modern take on the sneaker while Thom Browne mixes classic wingtip design with a fresh take on the lace-up boot. For Mr. Sporty, when it comes to sneakers Yohji Yamamoto for Y-3 chooses blue as their pop color. Hermes stays classic with superb quality, worn with a Thom Browne suit for a night on the town is perfect.

The New Bespoke by Alexander Jaime

thombrowne.jpg

Thom Browne's new studio-showroom in midtown is nothing short of his aesthetic—the two-floor space utilitizes Browne's signature color palette of grays mixed with terrazzo floors. After the end of his partnership with Brooks Brothers on their Black Fleece line, his new venture is a made-to-measure suit service with long time tailor Rocco Ciccarelli. Rocco has worked with every menswear design in New York. Thom is following in a path much like Tom Ford, and Ermenegildo Zegna, the future of luxury is bespoke.

I design in a way that I think speaks to everyone—although there’s an American sensibility, in that there’s a sports reference and a little bit of an ease to it.

Perfect Trends 2015 – Men's Hair by Alexander Jaime

perfecttrends2015

So your not quite sure if you are hipster or preppy? We have put together a short Trend Report of the modern hairstyles that keep you looking perfect in any climate.

This style defines the guy who likes balance and a little bit of flare. Something that can be worn with the most discerning sharp suit, but come the weekend when the ripped jeans and white v-neck is called upon it adapts.

Don’t be fooled by the softer look.. you still can be a ball buster … but commit to it. Classic parted high sheen/shine. Good clipper work on the bottom of the head leading up to a nice proportion of hair on top. This can be worn in all directions. Best styled when dry avoid the mobsterlook. Be it a polo or a cracking collar this haircut will get people taking you seriously.  A touch of facial hair on this one could be the winner.. but don’t go overbeard….

Well the curls can get the girls.. you don’t need a guitar and a motor bike, the right amount of shape and balance you could pull off a larger curl all over, or try a classic cut on the underneath with a slight build up of weighted curls on top.. Product is key... layer layer, layer that product and style it like you don’t care... you might just pull it off.

Tight, short but not completely rude. High quality haircut not just with clippers, but to actually work with the shape of your head. Faded our lines and impeccable tapers. The  slightest increase in length but still keeping a curved edge through the round of the head leading to the top. Dry finish, matt paste and waxes.  Respect your look and keep this trimmed every 3-4 weeks.

It's time for a quick snapshot of what the gents are wearing in Cannes this year.  The "Mad Max: Fury Road" style is anything but apocalyptic, and Colin is looking dapper. We're craving more modern creativity from the rest of the crowd. Take a look.

Fall 2015 Menswear Style Report by Alexander Jaime

pm-edit-f15_1B copy.png

This menswear season had everything you could have hoped for—lots of chic and funky outerwear, beautiful women on the runway, and a full-frontal show from Rick Owens. Fall always brings with it new approaches to layering, texture, and color, and this season was no different. Trends we took particular note of include a revival of early 1970s colors and textures, structural tweeds, ultra-tactile fabrics that bring the elegance, and stylishly Scandinavian outerwear.  Here are a few of The Perfect Man's favorite looks from the runway.
